Reporting to the Communications Director, the Social Media Specialist is responsible for managing and growing Young Harris College's social media presence across platforms to increase brand awareness, engagement, and affinity with key audiences, including prospective students, current students, alumni, and the broader community. This role develops platform-specific strategies, creates compelling content, monitors trends, and analyzes performance to ensure social media initiatives support the College's strategic goals and brand identity.

Responsibilities

  • Create and publish engaging written, visual, and multimedia content tailored to each platform (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Threads, etc.)
  • Plan, develop, and execute strategic social media content calendars aligned with marketing campaigns, institutional priorities, and seasonal needs.
  • Be present at on-campus events for the purpose of providing social media content such as photos and videos to highlight College programming on appropriate channels.
  • Update social media headers, bios, and descriptions as needed.
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics and report insights monthly.
  • Use data to refine strategy, optimize content performance, and grow audience engagement.
  • Utilize YHC hashtags and geolocations for YHC-related content which can be repurposed on College social media channels.
  • Ensure all social media content reflects the College's tone, visual identity, and messaging.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate current YHC students for the Marketing Ambassador Program.
  • Aid campus departments, including but not limited to The President's Office, Alumni Engagement, Admissions, Student Involvement, Academic Affairs, and Advancement, to develop and post relevant social media information.
  • Schedule photography for events and ensure photos are posted in a timely manner to the YHC Flickr account.
  • Serve on committees as needed.
  • Actively participate in professional development and training opportunities.
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of best practices for digital media
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to identify and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Understanding of tools related to digital media such as Mail Chimp, SproutSocial, etc.
  • Familiarity with general office procedures and equipment

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Requires the ability to stand and be mobile for long periods of time (attending events) as well as the ability to sit for long periods of time while handling frequent interruptions
  • Requires extended and weekend hours
  • Requires manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements for typical office work
  • Requires talking, hearing, and seeing as important elements for completing assigned tasks
  • Requires the use of various electronic tools
  • Requires the ability to relate well to others
  • Requires the ability to respond appropriately to constructive feedback from management
