Overview

The Random House Group at Penguin Random House is seeking a Senior Publicist or Publicity Manager to join our talented and mission-driven team, supporting the Harmony, Rodale Books, and Convergent Books imprints. These imprints publish impactful titles across a wide spectrum of nonfiction genres—including health and wellness, lifestyle, business empowerment, spirituality and faith, parenting, and prescriptive narrative nonfiction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and execute strategic publicity campaigns for frontlist and select backlist titles across the three imprints—building visibility through traditional and digital media, events, and influencer engagement.
  • Deliver high-touch author care, serving as the primary point of contact throughout the campaign. Communicate effectively and consistently with authors, agents, and publishing stakeholders.
  • Pitch and secure coverage with top-tier national and regional broadcast, print, podcast, and online media, including outlets focused on wellness, spirituality, lifestyle, and business.
  • Write impactful press materials, including press releases, media alerts, talking points, and original pitches tailored to each author and title.
  • Plan and oversee author tours and event appearances, including travel logistics, bookstore coordination, and local media outreach.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, editorial, and sales teams to ensure integrated campaigns that align with imprint goals and author brand positioning.
  • Represent titles and campaigns in internal publishing meetings and cross-functional team discussions.
  • Manage budgets and campaign expenses, ensuring timely processing of invoices and adherence to financial guidelines.
  • Track campaign performance and stay up to date on industry trends and evolving media landscapes.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in book publicity or a closely related field; preference for experience with nonfiction and prescriptive titles in categories such as wellness, spirituality, lifestyle, parenting, or business.
  • Demonstrated success leading media-forward, author-focused campaigns with national reach.
  • A strong network of media contacts across various platforms, with a proven ability to pitch effectively and creatively.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; persuasive, strategic, and confident in both pitching and presenting.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple simultaneous campaigns, authors, and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; a collaborative team player and proactive self-starter.
  • Experience coordinating author travel, events, and multi-city tours.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with publicity platforms such as Muck Rack, Cision, NetGalley, and Canva is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the media landscape and a passion for nonfiction that informs, inspires, and empowers readers.
