Neos is seeking a UI/UX Designer for a contract role with our client in Austin, TX. Hybrid – On Site and Telework. The position is 2 days remote with 2 days onsite (Mon, Tue & Thurs) at 4601 W Guadalupe St, Austin, Texas 78751. Description Of Services

  • Understand business objectives and problems, identify alternative solutions, and perform studies and cost/benefit analysis of alternatives.
  • Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or improve existing computer systems.
  • Confer with organizational personnel to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and determine input/output requirements such as data entry, data summaries, and report formats.
  • Write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and development steps for new or modified computer programs.
  • Review computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine feasibility of program requests or changes.
  • Support UI/UX initiatives focused on improving accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of HHSC eligibility systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain insights into user interactions and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Apply proven UX design experience, with portfolio demonstrating expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping (low- and high-fidelity), and usability testing.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies aligned with accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
  • Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
  • Participate in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to align design with business objectives.
  • Use design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar for usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization.
  • Design interfaces for AI/ML systems with focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles.
  • Design for complex systems involving business logic and regulatory requirements in areas such as government services, healthcare, or finance.
  • Create effective data visualizations to present complex data and AI insights clearly.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles with empathy and user focus.
  • Communicate design solutions effectively to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure designs meet WCAG and other accessibility standards.
  • (Bonus) Experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications.

Candidate Skills & Qualifications (Minimum Requirements)

  • 11 years of experience designing UIs/UX for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
  • 11 years of experience collaborating with technical and non-technical teams to translate business needs into intuitive, accessible design solutions.
  • 10 years of experience applying UX design principles (hierarchy, contrast, alignment) to create responsive, accessible web and mobile interfaces.
  • 10 years of experience creating wireframes and prototypes supporting agile development cycles, including sketch-to-visual fidelity transitions.
  • 5 years (preferred) designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives for timelines, workflows, and system architecture.
  • 3 years (preferred) facilitating design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders to align with business goals and user needs.
  • 3 years (preferred) with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, HCI, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 years (preferred) managing multiple design streams across concurrent work efforts.
