Onsite position in Elkridge, Maryland.

Pay

Base pay range: $20.00/hr - $35.00/hr. The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.

Job Description

Writes rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, test requirement documents (TRDs), user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical information and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials. Publishes materials in various formats including page-based, electronic, basic and interactive structured HTML, XML and SGML. Collaborates with task leads, writers, engineers and instructors to develop and deliver sensor/system technical manuals to varying levels of detail and delivery formats. Performs Desktop Publishing tasks for program/project reports, whitepapers, articles and other documents. Researches and compiles information from program documents, engineering sources, et al. to develop manual outlines and adhere to military/civilian specifications and standards of technical writing. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Publishes materials in various formats (page-based, electronic, basic, interactive HTML, XML, SGML).
• Collaborates with task leads, writers, engineers and instructors to develop manuals for varying detail levels and delivery formats.
• Performs Desktop Publishing tasks for program/project reports, whitepapers and articles.
• Researches and compiles information from program documents and engineering sources to develop manuals in compliance with standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills; proactive, problem-solving and organizational skills; self-motivated.
• Bachelors Degree in STEM or related field or military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks and information technology-based sensors/systems.
• Expert knowledge with MS Office products.
• Minimum of 2 years experience with structured authoring applications such as Arbortext, MadCap Flare or FrameMaker.
• Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously and strong attention to detail.
• Possess and maintain DoD Secret clearance.
• Self-starter and engaged team member.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years technical writing experience.
• Knowledge of standard content management strategies.
• Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100).
• Knowledge of standards XML, SGML, HTML, S1000D and DITA for structured content.
• Possess and maintain DoD Top Secret/SCIF (TS/SCI).
