Overview
UI TAX EXAMINER - Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Pocatello. State of Idaho opportunity in the Unemployment Insurance Division at the IDOL for multiple full-time UI Tax Examiner positions. The UI Tax Examiner is instrumental in conducting investigations and ensuring the integrity of the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund. The incumbent determines compliance with employment security laws. The ideal candidate will have strong financial skills, an analytical approach to problem solving, excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently and on a team.
Location(s): These positions may be located in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls or Pocatello offices. To be determined upon selection of the successful candidate.

Selected applicants will be required to pass a background check. The position requires day and/or overnight travel throughout the State of Idaho.
Responsibilities
- Review and audit financial data for accuracy and compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Conduct complex and thorough investigations, including interviewing individuals from varying socio-economic backgrounds and researching and gathering evidence.
- Document findings, analyze facts, issue determinations, and communicate investigation and audit findings to internal and external parties; provide guidance on corrective measures and enforce compliance with findings.
- Educate, assist and communicate with a wide range of internal and external parties concerning financial transactions, operations and reporting from financial software.
- Identify and investigate areas of non-compliance for business operations throughout the State of Idaho.
Minimum Qualifications
- Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Typically four years of professional work experience applying GAAP (or education plus two years of related experience) as a bookkeeper, accountant or equivalent, or a degree in accounting or a business-related field with related experience.
- Experience developing, preparing and/or reviewing financial documents (typically one year of full-time work experience).
- Experience using a personal computer to develop reports, analyze data and compose correspondence (typically one year of experience).
- Experience analyzing processes and/or activities and recommending corrective action (typically one year of full-time work experience).
- Experience interacting and/or interviewing people from varying socioeconomic backgrounds to obtain sensitive or confidential information (typically one year of full-time work experience).
Additional qualifications
- Experience preparing and facilitating training to groups and individuals.
- Experience researching and analyzing financial documents to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and accounting principles.
- Experience conducting meetings to discuss issues that can be controversial, adversarial or confidential.
- Experience compiling evidence and preparing a case for a hearing.
