GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs moderately complex to complex graphic and multimedia design for publishing of audit reports and other agency content. Work involves coordinating with all levels of agency staff and management to identify audience and overall goal, align content with audience needs, and ensure deliverables are prepared in a manner appropriate for publishing. Responsible for directing, editing, producing, and distributing information to the Legislature, state agencies, and the public. May be asked to create new content or review and edit content created by others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Plans, designs, and develops graphics and interactive media materials as part of a comprehensive communications effort. Develops and drafts documents with a graphical or multimedia focus such as brochures, reports, photographs, videos, or audio content. Designs video content for training or outreach. Creates and maintains web pages and intranet sites. Maintains archive of electronic production files, artwork, and images. Presents mockups for approval and formally presents final products to agency staff. Troubleshoots system hardware and software problems. Coordinates printing needs to ensure quality and cost-effective printing. Organizes and coordinates the drafting of agency documents that are suitable for distribution on the Web. Translates professional jargon or complex language into language that is suitable for a specific audience. Maintains liaison with executive staff to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of agency documents published on the Web. Edits and approves drafts of agency documents to help generate polished and professional finished products. Performs related work as assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Experience and Education Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field. Experience and/or certifications may be substituted for education. Familiarity with Government Accountability Office’s Government Auditing Standards and audit terminology a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of graphic design technology and trends, photography, videography, and strong visual design skills. Skill in working independently or as part of a team to enhance deliverables and develop innovative formats. Skill in communicating complex ideas in a visual format so they can be understood by an uninformed reader. Skill in using appropriate grammar and punctuation. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Skill in using standard computer word processing software programs, including Microsoft Word. Knowledge of legal issues, such as copyright, privacy, and website accessibility.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience in creating graphics or preparing documents. Knowledge of digital publishing and CMS (content management systems), preferably Microsoft SharePoint. Knowledge of Adobe software (including Acrobat Professional, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) and/or other graphic design programs. Skill in using Windows and various operating systems and web browsers, including Mac operating systems, Safari, Firefox, Chrome and Android as evidenced by formal course work, training, or previous experience.
