About the OpportunityThe Assistant VicePresident for State Authorization reports to the Vice President for AcademicAffairs. This individual will (1) work with non-public and out-of-stateinstitutions seeking to offer post-secondary degree programs in North Carolinaand for religious and military institutions seeking exemption from therequirements of licensure, (2) lead all aspects the authorization and licensureprocess, to include forming and leading Teams of Reviewers as the ex officiomember of the Team, and prepare reports regarding licensure, (3) monitorchanges in state law and federal law regarding state authorization and proposerevisions to the Board of Governor's policies on state authorization whenrequired, (4) determine which applicants for licensure meet the state'srequirements and make recommendations to the Board of Governors that thoseapplicants be licensed, (5) serve as the System Office's primary staff personfor the UNC State Authorization Network, and the National Council for StateAuthorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), (6) serve as theprimary state authorization contact for the Advisory Council for the StateBoard of Proprietary Schools, for the UNC constituent institutions, foraccreditors, Federal Student Aid, other regulatory bodies, and law enforcement agencies(7) manage the financial and budgetary aspects of the licensing and stateauthorization operation, (8) form and lead teams, as required, for 2/6 yearfollow-up visits are required by statute and regulation, (9) supervise allpart-time and full-time staff.This position is a hybrid work arrangement requiring regular travel. Day travel is anticipated several times per month and overnight travel at least once per month. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.About the UNC System OfficeThe UNC System Office includes the offices of the President and other senior administrators of the multi-campus University of North Carolina System. The UNC System Office also has administrative oversight of a number of University affiliates, including PBS North Carolina, the North Carolina Arboretum, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and University of North Carolina Press.About the TeamAcademic Affairs leads inthe development and implementation of the academic mission of the University,to include: advising the President and Board on academic affairs issues ofUniversity-wide importance; leading strategic academic planning and the implementationof resulting policies; collaborating with chancellors, chief academic officers,and faculty on University-wide academic initiatives; and, implementing theacademic portion of the University's strategic plan.Minimum Education, Experience, and SkillsAn earned master's degree and five years of experience.
