Responsibilities

  • Coordinating Writing Support: conduct one-on-one conferences with student writers to help them improve their writing skills; schedule appointments; complete required reports for each conference session; maintain client records; assist in promoting the Writing Center by conducting orientations, giving in-person and virtual presentations to classes, and promoting Writing Center services; create and distribute writing resources; attend staff meetings; maintain the physical space of the front desk, Writing Center, and CULearn.
  • Clerical: act as an administrative assistant to the Director of Academic Support and the Associate Dean, mentor undergraduate staff, participate in staff evaluations, serve as a liaison between staff and the director, assist Navigate communications, monitor and respond to emails in the departmental inbox, and maintain operations records; assist with staff scheduling and training; perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Support in collaboration with the Associate Dean, Academic Resources.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a Concordia University Chicago graduate program. Must be continuously enrolled for at least 6 hours each in the fall and spring semesters (regardless of when the hours are taken during the semester) and at least 3 hours in the summer semester. Must complete a background screening.
  • Strong writing skills and extensive experience writing at the college level; exemplary interpersonal and customer service communication skills; strong organizational skills; experience with research and research writing; experience using technology; knowledge of composition/writing theory and learning theory; public speaking and presentation experience with all student populations, including students with learning disorders and second-language users; experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Google Docs; Bachelor\'s degree required; prior tutoring and/or teaching experience preferred.
  • Not a remote position; all working hours will be on campus in the Writing Center/CULearn.
