The Opportunity The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Engineering Technician level 5 serves in a lead engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, you will modify or create deliverables and perform design assignments by applying engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts. You will provide technical guidance and may direct other engineering professionals. The ideal candidate has intermediate experience with Autodesk Inventor (SDS) and intermediate experience with physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS). Engineers, Technicians, and Skilled Specialists work on projects from local improvements to large-scale Mega Projects, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture that supports career development. Key Responsibilities
Engineering Standards: Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures; reviews project requirements to determine the correct format and content of deliverables. Quality / Continuous Improvement: Applies BV Quality Program to deliverables; demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management; reviews design inputs to ensure consistency; ensures deliverables comply with codes and standards. Engineering Production: Applies basic engineering principles to develop moderately complex design concepts and deliverables; exercises judgment on deliverables and input interpretation; handles difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and provides technical guidance; performs design calculations, material quantities and estimates; may review others deliverables; may define work assignments and schedules; may program control systems or participate in plant startup activities. Project Coordination: Coordinates with design group personnel to exchange project information; may support field activities. Client Focus: Focuses on internal client needs while understanding external client drivers. Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Seeks and shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes; exercises judgment on deliverables and input interpretation. People Management: Assists with performance management, mentoring, and recognition; provides guidance to less experienced engineering technicians; may mentor and delegate work. Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications Diploma or Certificate; Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology preferred Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience Preferred Non-Technical Skills: Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Perseverance, Patience, Time Management, Drive for Results, Self Development, Listening, Informing Preferred Technical Skills: Experience with CADD or other electronic applications; intermediate knowledge of engineering standards, document control, and BV policies Intermediate experience with Autodesk Inventor (SDS) Intermediate experience with physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS) Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends; intermediate knowledge of BV quality program Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverables; intermediate knowledge of other disciplines Basic knowledge of construction and constructability principles; basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides; basic knowledge of procurement and contract administration Minimum Qualifications
