The Opportunity The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Engineering Technician 6 functions in a senior lead engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, modify or create deliverables and perform assignments of a design nature by applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts. Provide technical guidance and may provide direction to other engineering professionals. The ideal candidate will have advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) and advanced experience with physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS). Job Summary Functions in a senior lead engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, modify or create deliverables and perform assignments of a design nature by applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts. Provide technical guidance and may provide direction to other engineering professionals. Key Responsibilities Engineering Standards Pro-activate provides guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures Reviews project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables Quality / Continuous Improvement Promotes quality within project/group/section Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency Ensures deliverables comply with codes and standards for the project Manages drawing control and historical records per project method Demonstrates personal accuracy and drives continual improvement and change management Engineering Production Applies basic engineering principles to moderately complex design concepts and deliverables Uses judgment in deliverables input interpretation Provides technical guidance to other professionals Performs design calculations, material quantities and estimates Uses advanced applications (modeling and design software) May review others' deliverables May define work assignments and schedules May participate in start-up activities for specialized areas Project Coordination Coordinates with design group to review and exchange project information May support field activities May communicate design requirements, progress and schedules Client Focus Identifies key client interests and drivers and may determine key clients Communicates client interests to project team and develops approaches to address concerns Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology Assists in developing design standards and process improvements Identifies training needs for personnel supervised May be recognized for expertise in one or more areas People Management Assists with performance management, recognition and corrective actions Participates in career planning and development Supervises engineering technicians, including mentoring and feedback Resource Management Assists in monitoring staffing levels and skill sets Identifies resource needs and process requirements Preferred Qualifications Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology preferred Bachelor Degree in Engineering Design Technology preferred Typically a minimum of 8 years related experience Preferred Non-Technical Skills: Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Perseverance, Patience, Time Management, Drive for Results, Self Development, Listening, Informing Preferred Technical Skills: AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) advanced, physical substation design (AIS/GIS) advanced, use of electronic applications and document storage systems Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control and BV policies Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends; intermediate knowledge of company quality program Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverables; advanced knowledge of other disciplines Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles Intermediate knowledge of design principles and guides; basic knowledge of procurement and contract administration Basic knowledge of project controls, estimating and HR programs Minimum Qualifications All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screen and motor vehicle records search as applicable by law.
