The Opportunity The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Engineering Technician 6 functions in a senior lead engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, modify or create deliverables and perform design assignments by applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts. Provide technical guidance and may direct other engineering professionals. The ideal candidate will have advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) and advanced experience with physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS). Job Summary Functions in a senior lead engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, modify or create deliverables and perform design assignments by applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts. Provide technical guidance and may direct other engineering professionals. Key Responsibilities
Engineering Standards Pro-activate provides guidance by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and Black & Veatch policies Reviews project requirements and determines the correct format and contents of deliverables Quality / Continuous Improvement Promotes quality within project/group/section Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency Ensures deliverables comply with codes and standards for the project Maintains drawing control and historical records per project methods Demonstrates personal accuracy and drives continual improvement Engineering Production Applies basic engineering principles to develop moderately complex design concepts Exerts judgment in deliverables and input interpretation Provides technical guidance to other professionals Performs design calculations, material quantities and estimates Uses advanced applications (modeling and design software) May review others' deliverables May define work assignments and schedules May participate in start-up activities in a specialized area Project Coordination Coordinates with design group personnel to exchange project information May support field activities Communicates design requirements, progress and schedules Client Focus Assists in identifying client interests and drivers Communicates client concerns to project team and develops approaches to address them Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology Assists in developing design standards and process improvements Identifies training needs for supervised personnel May be recognized for expertise in one or more areas People Management Assists with performance management, recognition and corrective actions Participates in career planning and development Supervises engineering technicians, providing mentoring and feedback Resource Management May assist in monitoring staffing levels and skill sets Identifies resource needs and process requirements Minimum Qualifications All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements which may include background checks, drug screen and motor vehicle records as required by law. Preferred Qualifications Associate Degree in Drafting or related Engineering Design Technology (preferred) Bachelor Degree in Engineering Design Technology (preferred) Typically a minimum of 8 years related work experience Strong skills in AutoDesk Inventor (SDS) and physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS) Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, document control, and BV policies Proficiency with CADD, information modeling and document storage systems Certifications / Work Environment Normal office environment EEO / Benefits BV is an ESOP-owned company.
