General Summary & Scope

The Specialty Artist – MAC is responsible for maximizing MAC brand sales by engaging guests to determine needs, guiding purchases, and maintaining store cleanliness and replenishment. They represent Ulta Beauty and the MAC brand to guests and support the Experience Manager (EM) through performance (service/retail sales and in-store events), people (guest service and associate culture), and process (operating procedures and compliance). The role requires professional makeup artistry, exceptional guest service, and a strong aptitude to learn and communicate product knowledge.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The Specialty Artist – MAC demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision and values by performing the following duties and responsibilities (and other tasks as assigned):

Performance

• Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), omni-channel, and retail shrink.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships with an active preferred guest list and follow up on inquiries.
• Provide exceptional service by greeting guests, personalizing service, offering samples, and recommending complementary products/services.
• Conduct makeup demonstrations, applications, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations to MAC and Ulta Beauty brand standards.
• Study and practice Skill Certification requirements and complete as many skills as appropriate within the specified time frame.
• Inform guests about promotions and marketing initiatives within the brand and store categories/departments.
• Book appointments for services and in-store events to deliver an exceptional guest experience while meeting sales goals.
• Stay informed on industry trends and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits for guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

• Contribute to an inclusive environment for teammates and guests.
• Share benefits of the guest loyalty program and Ulta Beauty app with guests.
• Maintain and update an active MAC client portfolio.
• Act as a MAC and Ulta Beauty brand ambassador, sharing product knowledge and trends, including Back to MAC programs.
• Maintain relationships with MAC brand partners through trainings and in-store events.
• Participate in ongoing brand and category training to drive MAC brand sales.
• Collaborate with managers and associates to grow the business.

Process

• Adhere to Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow dress code and wear brand assets as directed.
• Drive sales by keeping work area replenished and testers available, meeting hygiene standards.
• Maintain store and MAC operational standards, including recycling programs and cleanliness of MAC areas and related spaces.
• Assist in merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, inventory procedures, and shipments using Ulta Beauty and MAC brand tools.
• Protect company assets through loss prevention practices and outstanding guest service.
• Perform other operational tasks as directed.

Job Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma preferred
• Cosmetology or demonstrator license as required by state law

Experience

• Cosmetics artistry experience preferred

• Strong competency in sales, products, and service
• Ability to build and maintain customer relationships
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Capability to handle guest concerns and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Special Position Requirements

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Attend brand-sponsored trainings

Working Conditions

• Frequent mobility during shift; standing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and twisting
• Occasional lifting up to 10 lbs and other manual tasks
