Overview
General Community Manager at Essex Property Trust – Oxnard, California. This is a Regular, full-time role located at VEN 149 Tierra Vista. The GCM leads a team including Community Relations Managers and Representatives, as well as Community Account Manager and Account Specialists, to deliver consistent financial results, ensure process compliance, and enhance the resident experience across a regional collection of properties. The role requires strong leadership, management of managers, and the ability to achieve strategic goals while handling multiple priorities.
What You Will Do
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Set strategic goals, manage resources effectively, and execute plans to achieve outcomes.
- Meet budgeted revenue and expense targets, communicate variances to the Director, and complete assigned financial reporting.
- Oversee resident communication, facilitate relocations, expedite new applicant lease processes, and organize resident events.
- Ensure the team meets Essex standards while completing bookkeeping and community management functions during the resident lifecycle.
- Oversee and support the Community Account Manager and team during the collection process, keeping delinquency within company targets.
- Direct the management and delegation of customer relationship management tasks to maximize team efficiency and productivity.
- Promote a community-focused atmosphere by engaging with residents to continuously improve the resident experience.
- Lead responses to portfolio client sentiment surveys and external reviews within company expectations, maintaining and enhancing the portfolio’s online reputation.
- Collaborate with the Community Relations Team (CRT) to maintain high levels of customer service for prospects, residents, and onsite and corporate departments.
- Engage with Community Relations Managers and General Operations Managers to strategize improvements to customer experience, associate engagement, and team effectiveness.
What You Will Need
- High school diploma or GED is required; bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from a 4-year college or university is preferred.
- 5+ years of community management experience with 2+ years of supervisory experience.
What The Job Requires
- Work is primarily in an office setting; sit at a desk or workstation for extended periods using standard office equipment.
- On-site work Monday through Friday at regional sites or a designated Hub; occasional weekends or after-hours if needed for business reasons.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods; minimal physical effort required day-to-day.
- Ability to travel between regional sites and for training or conventions as needed.

The pay range for this position is $104,000.00 - $156,000.00 per year. New hires typically start between $104,000.00 - $131,000.00 per year. Final salary offers consider factors such as skill sets, relevant experience, internal equity, and business needs.
This role is eligible to participate in Essex’s discretionary Annual Bonus program, commensurate with the level of the position.
