The MUSC Libraries seek a forward-thinking, collaborative, and data-driven individual for the Assessment Librarian position. Reporting to the Director of Library User Experience & Engagement, the Assessment Librarian will lead the development and implementation of a robust library assessment program. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing user-centered, evidence-based decision-making by designing, coordinating, and analyzing assessments related to library spaces, services, programs, and resources. This position will work closely with library leadership and campus partners to evaluate the effectiveness of services, demonstrate impact, and support continuous improvement aligned with MUSC’s strategic priorities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive assessment strategy for the Libraries, focused on user engagement, service quality, and resource utilization.
  • Design and implement qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including surveys, focus groups, usability testing, and data analytics.
  • Collect, analyze, and visualize data to support evidence-based planning, reporting, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with library departments and university stakeholders to align assessment with institutional goals and accreditation requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to library staff on assessment practices and tools.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards that communicate key findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Stay current on trends and best practices in library assessment, user experience, and higher education metrics.
  • Participate in strategic planning, special projects, and committees as needed.

Qualifications

Required
  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
  • Demonstrated experience or training in assessment, data analysis, and user experience research
  • Proficiency with assessment tools and data visualization platforms (e.g., LibInsight, Tableau, Qualtrics, Excel, Power BI)
  • Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in an academic or health sciences library
  • Familiarity with UX methodologies and usability testing
  • Knowledge of library and higher education assessment standards, including accreditation processes
  • Experience managing assessment projects and presenting results to diverse audiences
