Position Description: Serco is hiring a Senior Marine Electrician to be part of a dynamic team supporting U.S. Navy ships, located in Newport News, Virginia.

Serco supports U.S. Naval Ships with cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for the Military. You will join an team to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques.

You play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

Responsibilities

  • Receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; perform recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions, including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions.

  • Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; select, set up, and operate standard test equipment and record test data.

  • Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, such as constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapting standard equipment.

  • Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests and drawings; perform computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plot data and draw simple curves and graphs.

  • Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operate and adjust simple test equipment; record test data.

  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; typically report to a supervisor in a safe work environment.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.

  • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.

  • The ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification.

  • The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.

  • A combined minimum of 8 years experience in electrical work and/or shipboard experience.

  • Experience managing a crew of various trades (6-10 people).

  • A combination of 8 years of experience in the following areas: competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors; reading drawings (Tradesman level); QA/QA/QC related tasks; safety programs; prelim QA testing; MCTs; space closeouts; multipin competency; electrical testing requirements (ground checks, RSPT testing); layout and cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups, and multiple meter knowledge; reading drawings (Apprentice level); MCTs/RISE; layout and mounting of small equipment; basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, and meters; safety participation; NAVSEA familiarity; ability to work in high heat spaces; climbing shipyard stairs/ladders; kneeling for cable layouts; lifting up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 40 pounds while standing, kneeling, or walking.

  • Safety orientation and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to various work sites.

Additional desired experience

  • An active DoD Secret clearance.

  • An OSHA Certification.

  • Fiber optic certification.
