Job Description
Full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in Photography. Teach introductory and upper-level Photography courses, including 35mm photography and darkroom processing, digital photography, studio photography, and digital photo editing and printing techniques. Coverage also includes courses in the history of photography, medium and large format photography, and visual literacy, with opportunities to teach additional summer, winter, online, or evening courses. The successful candidate should combine an active and visible record as a practicing professional artist, a fresh pedagogical perspective, and an ability to teach commercial and professional standards, providing students with a solid foundation in the artistic and technical skills required for a professional career in the field. MFA or other terminal degree in Photography or related fields with teaching experience required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaching workload (8 course/24 semester hours of credit of instruction per school year), and preparation for classroom instruction.
- Teach courses in photography, including Intro to Photography, Intermediate Photography, Studio Photography, Advanced Photo Editing, and Photography Portfolio Development.
- Manage further curricular development of the Photography concentration and minor.
- Provide student assistance, including academic advising, professional and career advising, and portfolio development.
- Work with our Photography Lab Manager to manage and coordinate the Photography area's technical resources, including darkrooms, equipment cage, studios, and digital labs, including recommending and implementing equipment and processes.
- Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews, and student outcomes assessment, and serve on departmental and college-wide committees.
- Attend university functions, including commencement, awards ceremonies, and faculty committee and department meetings.
- Participate in scheduled orientation and registration programs.
- Engage in continuing scholarship and professional activities, which may include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, public service, and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community.
Requirements
- MFA or other terminal degree in Photography or related fields with teaching experience required.
- Ability to teach introductory and upper-level analog and digital photography courses as well as courses in medium and large format photography, and visual literacy, with the ability to teach commercial and professional standards where appropriate.
- An active and visible record as a practicing professional artist, a fresh pedagogical perspective, and an ability to teach commercial and professional standards.
- Ability to integrate appropriate analog and digital photography technology, studio resources, and photo editing and printing software in teaching.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
- Commitment to fostering extra-curricular professional photography opportunities for students that serve the university and greater community.
- Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
- Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
Additional Information
