We’re looking for a talented, highly motivated, and energetic Document Publisher to join our team of creatives in North America (currently in a hybrid capacity; 2 days in office per week if you live within 50 miles of an office). You’ll be part of a thriving, collaborative, inclusive team, delivering professional documents to our internal and external clients. You’ll engage with publishing colleagues to create and refine project documentation into clean, clear, attractive publications, following standard processes and adhering to client requirements.

A Document Publisher’s diverse range of skills includes expert-level experience in styles-based formatting in Microsoft Word; advanced PDF development to include OCR, optimization, and headers and footers; strong communication skills throughout the document development process, working collaboratively with a team to ensure workload is shared and deadlines are met; commitment to ensuring in-place processes are used and quality approaches are employed; dedication to quality and process adherence.

Our Document Publishers work on a document from conception to production and delivery and track and manage multiple concurring deliverables.

This is a non-exempt, hourly paid position.

Responsibilities

  • Experience ushering a document through its development phases from startup to client submittal. You’ve worked directly with authors and project team leads and have engaged other editors, publishers, and designers as needed to support document development. You’ve helped coordinate and manage a lot of moving pieces to create a finished document that can be up to thousands of pages and hundreds of megabytes.
  • Strong professional communication skills. Comfortable communicating verbally and in writing, asking questions for clarity, and engaging with publishing colleagues, team leaders, contributing authors, and project managers.
  • Expertise formatting in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint according to established brand or project styles and template requirements.
  • MS Word: expert knowledge creating and applying templates, manipulating styles, mail merge, macros, section breaks, page layout, cross-references, tracked changes, and troubleshooting formatting issues.
  • MS Excel: working knowledge of workbook formatting, formulas, and manipulating graphs and charts.
  • MS PowerPoint: basic knowledge of applying formatting to an established template.
  • Expertise in standard publishing programs; Acrobat: creating complex PDFs of reports with multiple figures, tables, and appendixes for client review; preparing large documents for publication (bookmarks, blanks, etc.).
  • InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop: basic knowledge is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, PDF-XChange Editor, or other PDF software.
  • Experience compiling large (5,000+ pages, 300+ MB) multivolume PDFs using OCR, optimization, headers/footers.
  • Understanding of shared workspace platforms (SharePoint, ProjectWise, etc.) and delivery options.
  • Experience working as part of a team with editorial, graphic design, document publishing, production, and technical staff.
  • Demonstrated time management skills, including completing work on time, communicating workload, and coordinating participation on long-term projects.
  • Commitment to quality reviews and incorporating feedback to deliver high-quality work within deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; relevant job experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Basic understanding of grammatical rules, punctuation, and references and citations.
  • Experience with document accessibility practices (Section 508, AODA, WCAG, PDF/UA).
  • Experience in an engineering consulting environment (preferred).

The base salary range for this position is $52,400.00 to $68,700.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and job-related skills, experience, and education or training.
