Hiring: W2 Candidates Only

Responsibilities

  • Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Proven UX design experience with an extensive portfolio demonstrating expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping (low and high fidelity), and usability testing.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with established accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
  • Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
  • Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure that design decisions are aligned with business objectives.
  • Utilize a comprehensive toolset (including Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar) and implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies.
  • Experience with AI/ML interfaces: design user interfaces for systems that incorporate Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, focusing on explainable AI (XAI) and human–AI interaction principles.
  • Design for complex systems and regulatory requirements, particularly in government services, healthcare, or finance domains.
  • Data visualization: present complex data and AI insights in a clear, concise visual format.
  • Demonstrate empathy and user advocacy; advocate for user-centered design principles.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Understand Accessibility Standards: knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines to ensure inclusive design.
  • Bonus: Experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications.

Candidate Skills and Qualifications

  • 11+ years: Hands-on experience designing user interfaces and experiences for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
  • 11+ years: Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions that align with accessibility and branding standards.
  • 10+ years: Experience applying UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to create responsive and accessible web and mobile interfaces.
  • 10+ years: Experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support agile development cycles, including sketch-to-visual fidelity transitions.
  • 5+ years (Preferred): Experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to communicate timelines, workflows, and system architecture.
  • 3+ years (Preferred): Demonstrated ability to facilitate design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  • 3+ years (Preferred): Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 3+ years (Preferred): Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort.
