About Stand Up for Kids - Orange County:

Stand Up for Kids is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of youth homelessness. The Orange County chapter has been serving vulnerable and at-risk youth ages 12-24 for over 20 years, providing mentorship, basic needs, education support, and access to housing resources. We empower young people to build brighter futures and ultimately break the cycle of youth homelessness.

The Opportunity:

Are you a seasoned social media professional who knows how to turn likes and shares into real impact? StandUp for Kids - Orange County is seeking a Social Media Strategy Volunteer to help us elevate our presence, engage our supporters, and drive meaningful action across our digital channels.

This is an ideal opportunity for a marketing expert who wants to give back by helping a grassroots nonprofit create a focused, measurable, and sustainable content strategy that amplifies our mission to end youth homelessness.

Key Responsibilities:

Audit & Strategic Recommendations

  • Conduct a full audit of current social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).

  • Evaluate audience engagement, content performance, posting cadence, and platform strengths.

  • Recommend a clear strategy for each channel based on best practices, capacity, and mission alignment.

Content Planning & Calendar Development

  • Create a year-round social media calendar that maps out key campaigns, themes, and events.

  • Advise on optimal posting frequency, content mix (stories, impact updates, calls to action, reels, etc.), and tone for each platform.

  • Collaborate with staff and interns to ensure the calendar is realistic and can be consistently executed.

Measurement & ROI Tracking

  • Help define what success looks like: engagement, reach, click-throughs, conversions, or community building.

  • Design a turnkey weekly reporting template with key metrics and simple visualizations that non-experts can maintain and interpret.

  • Recommend tools and workflows to track social media performance over time and adjust strategies as needed.

Ideal Candidate:

  • 5+ years of experience in social media strategy, digital marketing, or brand communications.

  • Deep understanding of Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn best practices, algorithms, and trends.

  • Experience developing content calendars and managing multi-channel social campaigns.

  • Strong analytical mindset and familiarity with social reporting tools (e.g., Meta Insights, Sprout Social, or native analytics).

  • Creative, collaborative, and committed to youth empowerment and equity.

  • You must complete a half day training and pass a background check ($18 fee)

What You'll Gain:

  • A meaningful opportunity to use your professional skills to help vulnerable youth build brighter futures.

  • Visibility and recognition on our website, social media, and internal team platforms.

  • A portfolio-enhancing project and professional reference upon successful completion.

  • The satisfaction of creating a roadmap that will guide our digital voice and help grow our community.
