Financial Controller, North America


Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)


Salary: $130,000 $160,000


Role Overview

Our client, a global leader in the media and advertising sector, is seeking a Financial Controller, North America to join their expanding team in New York. Reporting to the CFO & COO (North America) and the SVP of Finance (North America), this individual will oversee the North America finance team and be responsible for managing financial risks, planning, reporting, and ensuring compliance across all operations.

This is a hybrid role offering exposure to a dynamic international organization and an opportunity to lead financial strategy in one of the most innovative segments of the industry.


Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Oversee preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US & Canada GAAP.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and manage annual budgets, monitor variances, and provide accurate financial forecasts.
  • Internal Controls: Implement and maintain robust controls to safeguard assets and ensure integrity across financial processes.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Audit Management: Coordinate external audits and ensure timely, accurate completion.
  • Billing & Invoicing: Oversee client billing and invoicing processes to maintain accuracy and timeliness.
  • Tax Management: Direct and review all tax filings, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor liquidity and maintain strong cash flow positions to meet business obligations.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and develop the accounting team, fostering professional growth and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Input: Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support financial and business strategy.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks to safeguard long-term growth and stability.


Qualifications & Skills

  • CPA qualification preferred.
  • 10+ years of post-qualification experience in finance and accounting.
  • Experience in the media, advertising, or creative sectors highly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint; NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skillsboth written and verbalwith the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Commercial acumen with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Prior experience with advertising agency-specific financial systems a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple regions (US, Canada, UK).
