Overview
The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient-centered 60% Staff Nurse to work at our Oakdale Family Medicine Clinic. This position will mainly support the Family Medicine Clinic but may float to other patient specialties/clinic locations including Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and/or Specialty/Outreach Clinics. The role supports phone triage, laboratory support, prior authorizations, and nurse visits.
The Family Medicine team provides care across generations, including pregnancy care, baby wellness, vaccinations, physicals, acute and preventive care, mental health, and on-site laboratory services. When specialty care is needed, UI Health Care specialists are connected through a unified medical record for streamlined care. This position primarily supports Oakdale Clinic with potential to float to other locations as needed.

Duties to include
- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
- Develops patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial factors to attain expected outcomes.
- Implements patient care plans according to priorities, and documents interventions and patient/family response.
- Collaborates with patients and families as part of the multidisciplinary care plan.
- Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
- Implements nursing interventions according to department policies and protocols to maintain a safe environment; follows universal precautions.
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Percent of Time: 60% (24 hours per week)
Schedule: Variable hours Monday through Friday, between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM. No weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts required.
Location: Coralville, IA (and surrounding clinics/locations based on clinic needs)
Pay Grade: 52
Salary: $34,552.20 - $63,381.60 at 100% time / $27.69 - $50.79 hourly (based on years of experience)
Education
- An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Master’s Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
Required Qualifications
- Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with patients/families and the care team
- General computer skills
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association
- Driver’s License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
Highly Desirable Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months ambulatory experience
- Experience with triage phone calls in Outlook
- Experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment
- Ability to work autonomously and adapt quickly to different clinical environments and patient populations
Desirable Qualifications
- If not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program
- Experience with Epic messages/phone calls/results/inbox
- Experience with prior authorizations
- Phlebotomy experience
