Senior / Principal / Process Engineer – Thin Film & Annealing
At Enablence USA Components, we're pushing the boundaries of optical innovation. As a leading provider of planar lightwave circuit (PLC)-based photonic components, we enable the future of high-speed networks, data centers, and next-generation telecom. Our thin film technology is a cornerstone of our product strategy—and we’re looking for a passionate engineer to help us take it to the next level.
Overview The Role: We are seeking a Senior / Principal / Process Engineer – Thin Film & Annealing who thrives on solving complex problems and driving production excellence. This is a high-impact role in our wafer fabrication team, focused on the development, optimization, and scaling of thin film deposition processes that are critical to our optical devices.
Responsibilities
Lead and optimize thin film deposition and annealing processes (PECVD, PVD, ALD, High Temperature Annealing) for performance, yield, and reliability
Develop, characterize, and optimize CVD processes for doped silicon oxide films (e.g., BPSG, PSG) used in photonic device fabrication
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, packaging, test, quality, industrial engineer and operations) to integrate thin film and annealing processes into new and existing products
Support NPI (New Product Introduction) efforts with process development, DOEs, and transfer to production
Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process excursions and yield issues using standard methodologies (PDCA, DMAIC, 8D, etc.)
Work hands-on with fab tools, metrology systems (ellipsometry, profilometry, SEM, etc.) and automation
Set up and perform related metrology calibration and GR&R study as required
Set up, monitor and revise SPC charts and related Cpk for critical process parameters
Propose and execute continuous improvement initiatives to enhance throughput, cost, process stability & robustness and quality
Initiate new, review, revise and update related process documents for operations, recipe and tool calibration
Execute initial training and certification for process techs for related processes
Qualifications
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
3+ years of experience in thin film process engineering in semiconductor or photonics industries
Expertise with PECVD, PVD or ALD, High temperature annealing equipment and thin film metrology
Strong analytical skills and experience with DOE, SPC, FMEA, Lean Six Sigma, Constraints theory or similar methodologies
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D-to-manufacturing environment
Excellent communication, documentation, analytical skills, teamwork and problem-solving abilities
