Job Summary The Quality Assurance (QA) Department at the MBTA is a center of excellence for the development and implementation of quality processes to support MBTA staff and consultants in the delivery of Capital Projects for construction in accordance with MBTA Quality Management System and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) quality management system guidelines. The entry level Associate Auditor for Design Quality Assurance will use active listening, document review and comparison, critical thinking and report writing skills to participate in and conduct internal and external design quality audits for conformance to the MBTA’s Quality Management System for transportation Capital Projects. Must be able to identify problems and formulate and articulate logical solutions both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Assist in the review and approval of Project Quality Plans (PQP).

Perform audits to verify Design Team conformance with approved PQP.

Prepare PQP audit reports and monitor open audit report items until closed.

Assist with Consultant Performance Evaluation Report (CPER) process.

Maintain files using the MBTA e-Builder document retention system.

Manage administrative tasks and schedule to meet deadlines and work autonomously when required.

Understand and apply job practices, standards, processes and concepts, and complete assigned task on time and meet technical requirements.

Respond to inquiries from customers, vendors or co-workers in a professional and courteous manner.

Partner effectively with other MBTA departments to develop and maintain quality procedures.

Adhere to MBTA rules, regulations and policies, including EEO, Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Architecture, or related field.

One (1) year experience in quality assurance, quality inspections, and/or related quality activity.

Excellent documentation skills, attention to detail and ability to review data and numbers effectively.

Strong critical thinking skills used to gather data and make informed decisions.

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills.

Effective organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or Google Docs equivalents.

Ability to work with internal and external customers in a courteous and professional manner.

Satisfactory work record including employment history, performance and safety records.

Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.

Preferred Experience And Skills

Two (2) years’ relevant experience with engineering documentation and technical writing.

Ability to read and understand construction contract drawings and specifications for capital projects.

Experience in quality assurance auditing, quality control inspections, or related work; familiarity with capital projects in architecture, engineering, urban design, and construction of bridges and tunnels, fixed guideways, and related facilities.

Training/certification as ASQ CQI, CQPA, CSQP, CQIA, or CQT.

Substitutions Include

Associate’s degree with three (3) years of QA experience as an alternative.

Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.

Job Conditions

Ability to read, comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions in English.

Must be eligible to work in the United States and able to commute to MBTA work locations in the Boston, MA metro area.

Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team; may require compliance with CORI checks and background screenings.

Possibility of various shifts/locations to support operations, including severe weather contingencies.

Intern/Co-op terms must be enrolled in an accredited program with valid work authorization where applicable.
