POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
MUSIC TEACHER - CERTIFIED K-12
(HS String Orchestra / Intro to Piano Music Focus)

QUALIFICATIONS:
New York State Certification required in music K-12.
Advanced playing ability on at least one string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or string bass).
Knowledge of high school level school orchestra literature.
Ability to teach group piano, from beginner to intermediate level.
Strong classroom management skills and ability to motivate and inspire high school aged students.

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.
SALARY:
In accordance with the PPSTA contract, $64,681-$100,293

The music teacher at Poughkeepsie High School will provide quality educational experiences that support student development and encourage growth and knowledge in all aspects of music, including string instruments and string orchestra ensemble, and class piano. PHS Music Teacher will be expected to:
- Conduct string orchestra ensemble rehearsals and prepare the ensemble for public performance in concert.
- Teach intermediate to advanced string techniques for violin, viola, cell, and bass within sectional lessons.
- Teach a two-semester sequence, group piano class, progressing from beginner to intermediate levels.
- Develop student knowledge and skills in solo and group performance, note reading, as well as aural recognition (ear training), and potentially improvisational skills and basic music theory knowledge on their chosen instrument.
- Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time for instruction and rehearsal.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of each student to attain NYS learning standards.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Identify and utilize different instructional resources and methods to support the learning needs of students at varying levels of progress.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Provide for the care and protection of school property as well as musical instruments.
- Use relevant technology to support instruction.
- Observe and evaluate student performance and development.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments as appropriate.
- Provide appropriate feedback on student work.
- Monitor and encourage individual student progress.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
- Manage student behavior and maintain discipline by establishing classroom rules and procedures and enforcing classroom, school, and district rules and procedures.
- Participate in department, school, and district meetings and professional development activities as appropriate.
- Stay current with the most recent developments in the subject area as initiated by the school or district.
- Foster and maintain effective communication with parents and/or guardians.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
