Join to apply for the Traffic Engineering Technical Director role at WSP in the U.S. WSP is initiating a search for a Part-Time or Full-Time Traffic Engineering Technical Director in our Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA office. Engage in projects with our Pacific Northwest Traffic & Transportation Team and help solve client challenges.
Your Impact
- Provide traffic engineering technical expertise on projects.
- Lead traffic-focused projects and tasks on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Collaborate with business unit leads on business development and ensure excellence in project delivery.
- Leverage client relationships to cross-sell WSP services.
- Foster technical development and mentoring of staff.
- Participate in professional societies and conference programs (committees, panels, papers, presentations).
- Stay current with the latest traffic engineering techniques and practices.
- Ensure engineering services lead in professional standards, client requirements, budget and quality controls, and project objectives.
- Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 12+ years of relevant post-education experience in traffic engineering and design (e.g., traffic signal systems, signing/channelization, ITS, work zone traffic control, illumination).
- Engineer license required.
- Advanced knowledge of local agency procedures and traffic engineering principles.
- Staff management experience.
- Strong technical computation and interpretation of plans and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members with QA/QC adherence.
- Strong client interaction skills and ability to manage relationships at all levels.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company health, safety, and harassment policies.
- Ability to adapt to change and occasionally vary hours to meet business needs; occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PTOE certification.
- Project management experience.
- Pursuit management and proposal experience.
- Proficiency with technical writing, spreadsheets, Office, and pdf tools (e.g., Bluebeam).
- Experience planning and conducting inspections and investigations on transportation corridors and applying applicable regulations.
- Experience coordinating subconsultants to complete tasks efficiently.
- Substantial project experience with local agencies.
- Active involvement in local and/or national professional societies.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $147,200 – $218,570
