WSP is initiating a search for a Part-Time or Full-Time Traffic Engineering Technical Director in our Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA office. WSP is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer who is innovative, results-oriented, and team focused. The Traffic Engineering Technical Director will bring leadership and skills to help grow our business, oversee project delivery and staff development, and provide technical assistance and guidance in engineering and design for our local, state and regional clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide traffic engineering technical expertise on projects.
  • Lead traffic focused projects. Lead traffic tasks on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Collaborate with business unit leads to assist with business development opportunities and to ensure excellence in overall project delivery.
  • Leverage client relationships to cross-sell services of WSP.
  • Foster technical development and mentoring of staff.
  • Participate in professional societies and conference programs including committees, panels, papers, and presentations.
  • Remain current in the latest traffic engineering techniques and practices.
  • Assure that engineering services lead the industry in professional standards, client requirements, budget controls, cost control, quality control, and project objectives.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 12+ years of relevant post education experience in traffic engineering and design, including preparing construction drawings for traffic signal system, signing/channelization, intelligent transportation systems, work zone traffic control, and illumination systems.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with local agency procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency with traffic engineering principles, practices, and processes.
  • Staff management experience.
  • Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to junior and mid-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to occasionally vary hours to meet business needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PTOE certification.
  • Project management experience.
  • Pursuit management and proposal experience.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, spreadsheets, Office suite, and pdf markup tool (e.g. Bluebeam).
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of transportation corridors, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and directing subconsultants and others to consistently complete tasks efficiently.
  • Substantial project experience with local agencies.
  • Active in local and/or national professional societies.

Compensation: Expected Salary (all locations): $147,200 - $218,570
