Overview

Detention Processing Supervisors (DPS) serve as frontline leaders overseeing the intake and processing of individuals in custody. Their responsibilities include ensuring all protocols align with applicable laws, judicial directives, sentencing guidelines, and internal departmental policies and procedures. Detention Processing Supervisors work in a locked County detention facility that is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The ideal candidate is someone who can supervise efficiently, communicate effectively, promote team spirit and cooperation and motivate employees to support the goals and vision of the division. They have strong multi-tasking and supervisory skills that can work both independently and in a team environment. Education and/or Experience

Eighteen (18) months as a Detentions Processing Technician AND one (1) year of prior supervisory or management experience;

OR , Three (3) years as a Detentions Processing Technician;

OR , Three (3) years of experience as a supervisor in a court, detentions or law enforcement setting. Hiring Process and Timeline

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Background Investigation

Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Felony convictions will be disqualifying. Misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation which may include a psychological, truth verification or other examination or test. Evaluation

Qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
