Position Overview:
Jakes Divinity School (JDS) seeks a passionate, organized, and service-oriented Librarian to join our dynamic team. The Librarian will be responsible for managing the operations of the JDS library, curating and maintaining a diverse collection of theological and academic resources, and supporting students, faculty, and staff in their research and educational pursuits. The ideal candidate will also work collaboratively with partner school libraries to enhance the library's services and provide access to a wide range of academic materials.

Key Responsibilities:

•     Library Management
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Jakes Divinity School library, ensuring the availability of essential academic and theological resources in both physical and digital formats.
•     Collection Development and Maintenance
Curate and maintain an up-to-date collection of books, journals, multimedia, and digital resources relevant to theological and divinity studies. Manage acquisitions, cataloging, and weeding of materials as needed.
•     Research Support
Provide research assistance to students, faculty, and staff by guiding them in utilizing library resources effectively, including databases, online catalogs, and academic journals.
•     Information Literacy and Training
Develop and lead workshops, orientations, and one-on-one training sessions to improve information literacy among students and faculty, teaching them how to access, evaluate, and cite scholarly resources.
•     Collaborate with Partner Libraries
Build and maintain relationships with libraries at partner schools and institutions, facilitating access to additional resources and expanding the network of research materials available to JDS community members.
•     Technology Integration
Stay current with trends in library technology and work to implement systems that enhance library access and services (e.g., digital catalogs, library management software).
•     Student and Faculty Support
Assist students and faculty with their academic and research needs, offering specialized support for theological and divinity studies.
•     Administrative Duties
Manage library budgets, resources, and inventories. Prepare reports and assessments on library usage, needs, and developments.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS), Library and Information Science (MLIS), or a related field.
  • Experience in a library setting, preferably in a higher education or theological environment.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in library management systems and digital resources.
  • Familiarity with theological texts, academic journals, and research methods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and service-driven library environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  •   Previous experience working in a theological or divinity school library.
  •   Knowledge of archival practices and preservation of rare theological materials.
  •   Familiarity with library trends in digital resources, Open Access, and scholarly publishing.
