Overview

Napa County Library system serves four locations as an integral part of the communities. The library provides access to a wide assortment of materials, technology, and dynamic programming including author events, reading programs, workshops, STEM events, cooking, dancing, and more. Napa County Libraries are the hub of each community, welcoming all.

This recruitment is to establish an eligibility list for future Librarian I/II positions in Calistoga. Positions may be filled at the I or II level depending on qualifications. Some positions require bilingual Spanish/English abilities with bilingual pay differential. Telework availability and scheduling details follow county policy.

Responsibilities

  • Public service: provide reference and reader’s advisory, demonstrate library catalog use, help patrons access computers and online resources, and monitor library spaces for safety and orderliness.
  • Collection development: review, select, weed, and maintain materials in assigned areas; manage acquisitions and budget considerations.
  • Programming and outreach: present programming throughout the year; recruit, train, and oversee volunteers; participate in outreach to schools and local organizations; prepare publicity and promotional materials.
  • Operations support: contribute to overall library operations, serve on committees, supervise subordinate personnel when required, and assist with various projects.
  • Other duties as assigned: locate and provide library materials to patrons, instruct users in resources, assist with digital resources, answer reference questions, and assist with collection maintenance and promotions.

Position Requirements

  • LIBRARIAN I ($42.09 - $50.06/hour)
  • Education: A graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • LIBRARIAN II ($45.49 - $54.36/hour)
  • Experience: One year of professional library work.
  • Education: A graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • License or certificate: Maintain any required license, certification, or registration in good standing during employment.

Recruitment Process

  1. Applications will be accepted online on a continuous basis until the current vacancy is filled. The first review of applications will be the week of September 12, 2025.
  2. Applications will be reviewed for minimum qualifications; supplemental questions will be reviewed and scored as applications are received.
  3. Most qualified candidates will be invited to oral panel interviews; the most qualified candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. The list may be used to fill current and future vacancies over the next 12 months. The Human Resources Department reserves the right to modify the process at any time.

Selected Duties

Public service: reference assistance, reader’s advisory, and helping patrons use digital resources; safety and orderliness in library spaces.

Collection development, programming, outreach, and volunteer coordination as described above.

Additional duties may include: locating materials, assisting with digital resources, responding to reference questions, recommending acquisitions, supervising staff, inventories, and participating in committees.
