Overview

The Sierra Sun and Tahoe Tribune, local media outlets covering the dynamic communities of Lake Tahoe and Truckee, Calif., are seeking a full-time reporter. We are content-driven, not beat-driven, meaning the ideal candidate will be a team player who can cover a variety of topics, excel under deadline pressures, be passionate about community journalism, and embrace the outdoor-oriented lifestyle of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding areas.

While telling stories with words is a priority, the ideal candidate will also illustrate content through photographs, info graphics, video or other digital media options. Candidates with photography, video and digital skills and experience are preferred. Our newspapers publish only on Fridays, but we operate under an aggressive web-first mentality, so a strong passion for SEO and social media reporting is essential.

Our communities are nestled in the Sierra Nevada, offering abundant outdoor recreation year-round, including 14 world-class ski resorts, hiking trails, and water sports on Lake Tahoe. We are located less than an hour from Reno and Carson City. This is a full-time position with evening and weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities

• Tell stories through innovative writing, photography, video or infographics, and digital media.
• Meet established deadlines and excel under deadline pressures.
• Use social media and the web effectively.
• Gain and maintain a solid understanding of North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, CA, to provide the best possible product.
• Report on a variety of topics that are important to our readers.
• Enjoy the area and take advantage of everything Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe have to offer.

Qualifications

• Journalism/Public Relations/Communications degree preferred.
• Reporter experience preferred.
• Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
• Must have a good understanding of web and social media.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one.
• Must be motivated and have a passion for journalism.

Wage: $17 - $20 per hour. Competitive health benefits, $500 recreation bonus and 401k match. This is a full-time position. Evening and weekend work may be required.
