Description Solano Community College invites creative, passionate educators to apply for a part-time teaching opportunity in our Digital Media Arts Program. Our program is built on the belief that design is for everyone, and we are proud to serve a diverse community of students who bring unique voices, perspectives, and experiences to their work. We prepare students for transfer to four-year universities and technical colleges, as well as for meaningful careers in graphic design, digital illustration, animation, and related industries. The curriculum emphasizes curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and visual literacy, while building a strong foundation in design history and typography.
This is a part-time faculty role that may include teaching lecture and lab courses on campus,online, or in a hybrid format. Solano uses Canvas as our Learning Management System. and
faculty are required to complete distance education training prior to teaching online courses toensure quality and consistency in student learning. Responsibilities Responsibilities: Provide engaging instruction and demonstrations in alignment with established course outlines and curriculum. Integrate industry-standard and emerging applications into teaching, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Canvas, Zoom, Padlet, Screencastify, and Calendly, to enhance collaboration, communication, and scheduling. Engage students in community-based learning through interactive tools and collaborative platforms Review and refine curriculum while assessing student learning outcomes to ensure continuous improvement. Hold accessible office hours and provide individualized support for students Deliver timely, constructive, and actionable feedback to support student growth. Prepare, assess, and grade assignments, projects, and exams promptly. Maintain accurate and secure student attendance and grade records throughout the term. Submit required administrative documents and final grades by established deadlines. Foster student success through mentorship, career guidance, and pathways to internships and job opportunities. Minimum Qualifications
Master of Fine Arts in Animation, Design, Fine Arts with digital media emphasis, Television and Film, or a related discipline, OR Bachelor's degree in a related field and equivalent professional experience in visual design and/or digital media. OR
The equivalent. If you do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly as stated above, you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of application. Equivalency is defined as possessing the general education for the degree and the major coursework for the degree. The equivalency request form can be All degrees must be from accredited institutions. Desirable Qualifications
Professional experience in design, animation, illustration, or graphics, with the ability to help students see connections between industry practice and classroom learning. Strong design and drawing skills, using both traditional and digital approaches. Familiarity with animation and motion graphics workflows and a willingness to share evolving industry practices. A collaborative spirit, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and mentor students as they explore academic and career pathways. A record of teaching or professional practice in design, digital media, or animation-related fields. Enthusiasm for creating an inclusive, supportive classroom environment where students from all backgrounds feel welcomed and empowered to succeed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Effective oral and written communication skills; Ability to teach and develop curriculum within established guidelines; Experience in Canvas, Zoom, and related applications for online instruction; Fluency in digital technology and ability to troubleshoot software issues as needed for students; Expertise in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite and familiarity with Apple iOS, Windows-based PCs, iPads and other tablets and electronic drawing tools; Experience providing mentorship, sound career advice, and suggestions for job placement and internships; Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and intellectual challenges; Understanding of and a sustained commitment to the principles of equity, both in the classroom and throughout the professional sphere.
Adjunct faculty may purchase health and welfare benefits, at their expense, to the extent permitted by the District's health and welfare benefits carrier and/or broker.
Eligibility:
Taught at Solano Community College for at least two semesters (excludes summer session); must be scheduled for a minimum of 40% assignment at the time of enrollment in the health plan; enrollment periods to be determined each semester; once enrolled mandatory participation will be required (participation period to be determined); premiums will be made through payroll deduction and additional premiums due on a monthly basis by check to the Business Office no later than the 10th of each month for the succeeding month's benefits; and other procedures for implementation as determined by the District in consultation with the Association.
