Overview

Part-time Instructor, Music - Choir, Chamber Singers, Voice. This is a position anticipated to be filled for future semesters. Specific part-time teaching needs for future semesters may not be known until the end of class registration.

Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job

Faculty facilitate student learning and contribute to efforts to improve student success. They assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness, adhere to ethical standards, and maintain licensure and certifications where applicable. Full-time faculty have responsibilities including professional development, curriculum development, collegial responsibilities, participation in operational success, communication, and safety.

Specific Teaching Assignment

Faculty may be responsible for teaching classes in Choir, Chamber Singers and Voice, adhering to stated course objectives, content, and delivery.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Music, Music Education, Master of Arts in Music, or Master of Fine Arts in Music from an accredited institution.
  • Experience conducting a vocal ensemble.
  • Innovative, flexible and positive teaching style and understanding of the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization; ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Technology Skills: Ability to integrate computer applications into teaching.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and college objectives and the needs and abilities of students; ability to establish and maintain collegial relationships with students, peers, staff, and administrators; skill in oral and written communication. A foreign degree must be certified, at the candidate’s expense, by a professional evaluation service.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Higher education teaching experience.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • The employee must be able to move about the campus and be mobile for participant involvement/activities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret needs via conversations or written documentation.
  • Ability to utilize computer programs independently (internet, Word, student database).
  • Ability to present information in an instructional setting and respond to questions from groups.
  • If applicable, tolerance for exposure to chemicals common to the industry; ability to handle and mix chemicals safely and wear gloves.

Work Schedule

Faculty are required to maintain office hours and provide student consultations as necessary and reasonable.

  • Must be available to teach onsite; opportunities do not exist to teach online courses only.
  • This is a position anticipated for future semesters; specific needs may not be known until the end of class registration.
