Job Description
Zachry Group is currently accepting applications for a Senior Piping Designer to join our Engineering Design Center located in Houston, Texas. The Senior Piping Designer will be responsible for lead engineering and design tasks of the assigned projects based on specific instructions from the supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Understand advanced thermal expansion and basic dynamic stress analysis principles for preliminary layout.
- Possess detailed knowledge of major equipment, instrumentation, technology, and process units.
- Design brownfield and greenfield facilities considering equipment spacing, industry standards, and operational access.
- Complete complex piping designs and equipment layouts according to industry practices.
- Review proposals, RFQs, and develop work estimates for large projects, including early project execution strategies.
- Understand instrument design, installation requirements, and technology differences.
- Assess field constructability and fabrication methods for high complexity jobs.
- Develop equipment and instrument maintenance zones and pull requirements.
- Create complex line study layouts for detailed piping design.
- Audit and validate adherence to quality processes and workflows.
- Coordinate conceptual physical design with supervisors and engineers.
- Verify discipline design on projects and serve as a certified checker for complex projects.
- Write detailed execution plans and manage project workshare efforts.
- Understand structural design impacts and serve as a mentor for junior designers.
- Participate as a technical reviewer and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in design for petrochemical, refining, pharmaceutical, or power plant projects.
- Advanced knowledge of equipment layout, change management, scheduling, supports, expansion joints, and project cost estimation.
- High school diploma or associate's degree required; bachelors degree preferred.
- Understanding of project milestones, deliverables, and phased project execution.
- Experience with greenfield and brownfield project execution and site support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in construction support, mechanical completion, startup, and commissioning.
- Extensive site assignment support experience.
Physical Demands
Requires communication, manual dexterity, lifting, and moving objects as needed.
Work Environment
Office, warehouse, and construction site environments with moderate to high noise levels and construction activities.
