PGS Worldwide is actively seeking a skilled Technical Writer to join our team supporting a long-term contract-to-hire opportunity in Elkridge, MD. Youll contribute to a high-performing team responsible for delivering technical documentation on some of the most advanced radar and sensor systems in defense, including platforms like F-22, F-35, F-16, B-1B, MESA, G/ATOR, VADER, and other UAV systems.
This position requires an active DoD Secret Clearance. Candidates without clearance cannot be considered.
Contract Duration: 18 months, with contract-to-hire potential
Work Location: On-site in Elkridge, MD (some flexibility may apply)
Security Clearance: Must possess and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance
Key Responsibilities:
Write, edit, and publish technical documentation including procedure manuals, user manuals, TRDs, specifications, and service/maintenance manuals
Produce materials in structured and unstructured formats: HTML, XML, SGML
Prepare and select illustrative materials such as diagrams, charts, and schematics
Perform desktop publishing and formatting for technical reports and whitepapers
Collaborate with engineers, instructors, task leads, and other writers
Research, compile, and interpret information from engineering documents to produce manuals in line with military/civilian standards
Conduct quality reviews and ensure compliance with ASD-STE 100 or other industry standards
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in a STEM or related technical discipline, OR equivalent military experience in radar, electro-optics, IT-based sensors/systems
At least 2 years of experience with structured authoring tools such as:
Arbortext, MadCap Flare, or Adobe FrameMaker
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Strong attention to detail, grammar, formatting, and technical accuracy
Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
Must have an active DoD Secret clearance at time of application
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of technical writing experience in aerospace/defense or similar field
Familiarity with Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100)
Experience with S1000D, DITA, XML, or HTML-based structured content
Knowledge of content management systems and strategies
Current or previous DoD TS/SCI clearance
