Brand Design Lead

AngelList is seeking a Brand Design Lead to oversee our team of Brand Designers in a player-coach role. In this pivotal position, you'll be instrumental in shaping and evolving AngelList's brand identity as we move upmarket while driving the growth of our go-to-market efforts. You'll contribute to building and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy aimed at increasing brand awareness, launching impactful campaigns that influence our pipeline, and fostering collaboration across Product and the broader GTM teams.

As a coach, you'll lead and mentor a lean team of talented Brand Designers and Design Technologists. Your role will focus on strategically evolving the AngelList brand to reinforce its position as the market innovator and leader in private market software solutions. Beyond managing the external brand, you'll work closely with cross-functional leaders to integrate the brand into the heart of our business, shaping product experiences, and driving company growth.

As a player, you'll actively contribute to key projects that elevate the AngelList brand. This includes leading brand awareness campaigns, overseeing and evolving AngelList.com, exploring opportunities for sub-brands, and designing for events and annual conferences. Collaborating with teams across marketing, sales, product, and people operations, you'll ensure the AngelList mission and innovation are effectively communicated.

This role is essential in advancing our mission to accelerate innovation across private markets and will report to our Head of Marketing.

You will:
  • Cultivate the team strategy and career growth of our exceptional IC designers and design technologists, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation.
  • Develop and refine design processes, set impactful quarterly team goals, and work closely with the team to bring projects to fruition, aligning efforts with broader company objectives and key Brand Design initiatives.
  • Take creative ownership of the AngelList brand, shaping its voice and growing our reputation as a cutting-edge, institutional-level software provider for fund managers, investors, and founders across private markets. Serving as a foundational leader in AngelList's evolution upmarket, refining our visual identity across our core brand, AngelList, and exploring opportunities for potential sub-brands.
  • Collaborate closely with an exceptionally talented Marketing teamincluding design, product marketing, marketing operations, and growth marketingto establish AngelList as a leading brand at every touchpoint of the prospect and customer experience. This includes creating branded materials such as landing pages, customer stories, marketing campaigns, events, and more.
  • Bring expertise in technical environments, with a deep understanding of web and mobile client-side development processes, ensuring seamless collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Partner with leadership to build a healthy and collaborative work and Design culture
You have:
  • At least 810 years of experience in Brand Design and 2 or more years of management experience, ideally within a fast-growing SaaS company.
  • You inspire, not merely direct - You are a coach to others and give and ask for honest and critical feedback.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to deliver impactful, beautiful brand designs that inspire customers while translating ideas into clear deliverables and measurable outputs. You're skilled at improving team efficiency by refining processes and workflows.
  • Embrace a learning and growth mindset. You understand that our team size and design processes will evolve significantly in the coming years and strive to continuously improve and adapt based on what we learn together.
  • Excel in written and verbal communication, confidently handling high-stakes conversations and ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
  • Possess a strong understanding of product development processes and the ability to address product challenges across various platforms effectively.
  • Maintain composure in the face of ambiguity, skillfully navigating complex situations while adapting to multiple leadership styles and working on tight deadlines.
How success will be measured in this role:
  • Lead brand strategy that elevates and advances the AngelList brand as we expand upmarket.
  • Mentor and develop team members through thoughtful coaching, actionable feedback, and strong creative guidance.
  • Set strategic goals for the Brand Design team while ensuring the successful execution of both proactive and reactive projectsupholding a high standard for creative quality, scalability, and dependability.

AngelList has offices in two hub cities: San Francisco and New York City that you can choose to work from. We're focused on hiring within these hubs and people hired from these hub offices are expected to come into the office twice per week (Tuesdays and choice between Wednesday or Thursday). From time to time, we will make rare exceptions for new hires if they need to be fully remote.

Compensation: The compensation for this role consists of a competitive base salary, benefits, and equity package. The base salary for this role is $230,000+ annually but actual will vary based on a number of factors including a candidate's professional background, experience, and location. Additional details about our Total Rewards package will be provided during the recruitment process.
