Description:

Our client is seeking an architect-level Technical Writer to create, organize, and maintain clear, accurate, and compliant documentation that supports enterprise technology initiatives across programs and teams. The Technical Writer partners with engineers, analysts, product owners, and program leadership to produce structured documentation that enables system implementation, operations, governance, training, and user adoption. The role requires advanced information architecture, template and style guide development, strong editorial judgment, and familiarity with SDLC and Agile delivery. Work includes establishing documentation standards, version control practices, and accessibility and plain-language compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, write, edit, and maintain SOPs, policies, user and admin guides, runbooks, API references, release notes, FAQs, training materials, and onboarding packs.

  • Interview subject matter experts and translate complex technical concepts into concise, audience-appropriate content.

  • Create and maintain process maps, flowcharts, and technical diagrams (for example Visio), including BPMN-style workflows.

  • Define and enforce documentation standards, templates, taxonomy, and metadata for consistency and reuse.

  • Manage documentation libraries and permissions in repositories such as SharePoint or Confluence.

  • Apply accessibility and readability best practices, including Section 508 and plain-language guidelines.

  • Track revisions and approvals using Git or Azure DevOps and align documents to Agile sprint deliverables.

  • Coordinate stakeholder reviews, collect feedback, and drive documents through approval and publication.

  • Partner with QA to document test plans, test cases, and UAT instructions when needed.

  • Align with data governance artifacts such as glossaries and data dictionaries.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated success producing enterprise-grade technical documentation for multiple audiences.

  • Strong information architecture, indexing, and content modeling.

  • Expert use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Visio; comfort with Markdown or HTML for structured docs.

  • Experience managing content in SharePoint, Confluence, or similar CMS and repositories.

  • Familiarity with SDLC, Agile and Scrum ceremonies, and DevOps workflows for versioning and approvals.

  • Ability to create clear visuals and diagrams to support procedures and technical concepts.

  • Excellent editing, proofreading, and stakeholder communication.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience documenting APIs, integrations, data platforms, and security or privacy controls.

  • Exposure to public sector or healthcare environments and related terminology.

  • Basic understanding of privacy and security considerations in documentation.

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Systems, or a related field.
