Summary

We are seeking diverse candidates to serve as the CAFP Director of Communications and Member Engagement who directs day-to-day organizational communications, member engagement, and marketing. It is a dynamic role that works across departments to further CAFP’s mission of serving as the bold champion for Colorado family physicians and the patients and communities they serve. The ideal candidate will have an interest in healthcare and public health, with the ability to both plan for long-term strategic goals and implement day-to-day communications and membership activities.

Responsibilities

Communications and Marketing

– Lead strategic communications to advance advocacy, education, and organizational goals, consistent with organizational values. Draft and curate strategic communications to members and the public, conveying key messages impacting family medicine. Manage website, print, electronic and social media communications. Coordinate with all CAFP staff to promote events, programs, and initiatives that effectively engage members in our mission. Member Engagement

– Proactively identify and carry out member engagement opportunities in collaboration with CAFP staff. Develop a strong understanding of membership and member segments, applying this knowledge to serve and engage members in CAFP activities. Respond to member inquiries quickly, enthusiastically, and effectively. Advertising

– Manage partnerships with individuals and organizations interested in advertising with the CAFP. Facilitate communication between interested advertisers and CAFP’s website advertising company, magazine publishing company, and others. Assist advertisers in creating email advertising, event exhibit / sponsor opportunities, and paid resource coordination to members when appropriate. Branding and Graphic Design

– Ensure consistent branding across organization assets. Develop all graphics for the organization including print and digital marketing materials, logos for programs, infographics and other materials as needed. Public Relations

– Manage CAFP’s public relations activities in coordination with the EVP / CEO and CAFP Staff, including media and coalition partnerships. Public Health: Staff and manage the Health of the Public and Member Engagement Committee to engage member physicians, patients, and the public in promoting family medicine, sound public health, and CAFP values. Collaboration and Excellence

– Promote a culture of excellence, ongoing learning, teamwork, antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Specific Duties

Develop and implement an annual strategic communications plan Serve as managing editor of quarterly CAFP Magazine Draft and manage weekly e-newsletter and other member-wide messaging; manage CAFP’s social media Write and solicit content from staff and partners; proofread for AP Style Manage the publishing company to ensure a high-quality magazine Develop graphics adhering to brand standards to engage members and partners Coordinate with staff to promote programs and events including the Annual Summit, education events, advocacy, and stakeholder opportunities

Member Engagement

Develop annual membership survey, report on key metrics, and implement actions Support, develop, and implement programming to meet diverse member needs Support diverse member leadership development and identify member touchpoints Coordinate with the AAFP for member management, recruitment and retention

Advertising

Manage Member Benefit partners; solicit new partners and oversee the Referral Program, New Physician Benefits, and Special Discount Program Serve as point of contact for participating organizations and assist with advertising opportunities

Public Relations & Public Health

Develop and manage media contacts; draft press releases as needed Recruit and prepare members to speak at press conferences and media engagements Monitor family medicine coverage and coordinate PR/advocacy issues Position CAFP and family physicians as a voice in healthcare and public health

Other

Collaborate with staff on marketing and member engagement collateral, events, and other needs Take on other tasks as needed or assigned

Qualifications

Passion for improving lives of family physicians and patients through affordable, equitable, and accessible healthcare Understanding of social determinants of health and barriers to health equity; commitment to diversity and equity Strong planning, project, and time management skills Excellent writing and editing skills in print and digital; familiarity with AP Style Strong leadership, self-direction, initiative, and ability to multitask Experience with social media in a business/organizational setting (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) Experience with website content management systems, preferably WordPress Knowledge of marketing segmentation principles Experience with design software (e.g., Canva) Experience with artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Midjourney) Highly collaborative; strong customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

At least 3 years of experience in communications and marketing, preferably in nonprofit/healthcare/agency Knowledge of public relations, including writing press releases and talking points Knowledge of marketing for events and organizational activities Interest in healthcare and public health Experience with basic marketing analytics (web, email, social) and reporting

Workplace

The CAFP is a small team with a passion for pursuing more equitable, accessible and affordable healthcare by serving Colorado’s family physicians. We are on a journey to become a more equitable, antiracist organization and are committed to a work environment that supports diversity and inclusion. We have a hybrid workplace with most work possible remotely. We gather at the CAFP office 1 day per week, in addition to several in-person events throughout the year. Our office, called the Colorado Health Capitol, is a shared workspace with over 25 nonprofit organizations in healthcare, the environment, and advocacy. Process

Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, with an initial deadline of September 8, 2025. Competitive applicants will begin with a first-round, 30 minute virtual interview with the EVP / CEO. An exercise in the skills of the role may be required for final candidates. Finalists will be invited to a second-round, 1-hour in-person interview with the CEO and CAFP Staff. A final decision will be made following all second-round interviews. Stipend provided.
