JOB DESCRIPTION

Director of Production – Lighting, Video & Audio Systems

Victory Pyrotechnics & Special Effects

Location: Wichita, Kansas (Some Travel Required)

Employment Status: Part-Time with future Full-Time Opportunity – Non-Exempt

Introduction:

Victory Pyrotechnics is growing—and we’re seeking a driven, hands-on leader to build and oversee our new production services division, with a core focus on lighting systems, supported by video and audio integration. If you\'re a builder, a creative mind, and a natural leader who thrives in both production meetings and on-site builds, this is your moment.

As Director of Production, you’ll not only design and deliver high-caliber technical solutions—you’ll also help establish the standards, systems, and team that will define Victory’s future in live production.

About Victory Pyrotechnics & Special Effects:

Based in the heart of Kansas, Victory is a premier production company dedicated to transforming events into unforgettable experiences using a combination of lighting, video, audio, pyrotechnics, and special effects.

We hire a team consisting of pyrotechnic field technicians, show designers, and logistics gurus who allow us to produce magical productions.

Job Summary:

The Director of Production is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of lighting, video, and audio systems for our events. This role demands leadership in both pre-production design and on-site delivery, while also shaping the long-term growth of our production division. You\'ll work closely with sales, operations, and technical teams to create scalable solutions that elevate client experiences and drive Victory’s expansion into full-service production.

This is not a desk job—you’ll be part of the design, part of the build, and part of the show.

Responsibilities

  • Lighting Design & Oversight: Lead the design and execution of event lighting systems. Program and operate consoles (MA2/MA3, Chamsys, or equivalent), create visualizations in Capture 3D/Depence², and deliver rigs that are both artistic and technically precise.
  • Special Effects Integration: Design and program lighting and video systems that incorporate pyrotechnics and atmospheric effects. Collaborate with FX operators to align cues, ensuring special effects are seamlessly integrated into show designs.
  • Video Systems & Media Integration: Manage video workflows including LED walls, projection systems, and media servers (Resolume, Novastar, Disguise). Oversee signal distribution and ensure smooth operation from pre-production through live execution.
  • Audio Integration: Manage small- to mid-scale sound systems, including console operation (Midas, DiGiCo, SSL), wireless/RF coordination, and advanced system optimization and tuning.
  • Networking & Signal Flow: Build and troubleshoot DMX, ArtNet, and sACN networks across lighting, video, and audio systems. Ensure redundancy and reliability in live environments.
  • Pre-Production & Gear Prep: Advance shows, coordinate with venues, and oversee gear prep in the shop. Maintain and scale equipment packages for a variety of event sizes.
  • Team & On-Site Leadership: Supervise crews during load-in, rehearsal, and live execution. Direct technicians and support staff, manage timelines, and ensure smooth transitions from setup to strike. Mentor junior technicians and set the technical standard for the division.
  • Client Interaction & Sales Support: Participate in sales conversations, providing technical insight and helping scope projects that meet both creative and budget goals.
  • Vendor & Resource Coordination: Source rental gear when needed and maximize in-house resources to provide turnkey event solutions.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to rigging, power distribution, and OSHA safety standards. Operate lifts and supervise safe installation practices.
  • Training & Development: Actively pursue continuing education and manufacturer training opportunities (lighting consoles, media servers, networking, special effects). Partner with leadership to bring new skills and technologies into Victory’s production capabilities.
  • Division Development: Establish workflows, training standards, and scalable systems to grow Victory’s production services into a premier department.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Willingness to work outdoors, travel occasionally, and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Available to work select evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in lighting, video, or AV production.
  • Extensive knowledge of lighting consoles (MA2/MA3; Chamsys/ETC).
  • Proficiency with Capture 3D or Depence² for previsualization and system design.
  • Strong understanding of DMX networking (sACN, ArtNet) and lighting system architecture.
  • Familiarity with LED walls, processors (Novastar/Analog Way), and media servers (Resolume/Disguise).
  • Hands-on experience with audio consoles (Midas, DiGiCo, SSL) and system integration.
  • Ability to climb ladders, and operate lifts (forklift, scissor, boom).
  • Proven leadership in live event environments, with the ability to make confident decisions under pressure.
  • Experience with client-facing sales or tech scoping preferred.
  • Self-starter with a passion for detail, quality, and teamwork.
