Job Description
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for designing sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and copper bus assemblies for low- to medium-voltage switchgear. This role focuses on creating manufacturable, cost-effective, and compliant designs that meet client requirements while supporting Point Eight Power’s commitment to long-term growth and industry leadership. As part of a collaborative engineering team, you will work closely with electrical designers, engineers, manufacturing, and project teams to deliver accurate models, drawings, and documentation. Schedule: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm
What You'll Do:
- Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of sheet metal panels, supports, barriers, and bus assemblies that meet client specifications, functionality, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with electrical designers to ensure proper integration of mechanical structures and copper bus into project drawing packages.
- Partner with project management, manufacturing, sales, and estimating to support project execution and foster effective communication.
- Produce bills of materials, assembly drawings, and cut sheets for manufacturing in a timely, accurate manner.
- Research and resolve design-related issues by interfacing with manufacturing, engineering, and field service teams.
- Contribute to reducing cycle times by reusing or adapting proven designs where applicable.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for efficiency, quality, and reliability enhancements.
- Communicate with clients and internal teams to provide assurance that designs will be delivered on time and to specification.
Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or GED, Required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferred.
Experience
- 2+ years of mechanical design experience in a switchgear or electrical equipment manufacturing environment, preferred.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor) Required.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of design techniques, blueprints, and precision technical drawings.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, sheet metal fabrication, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with raw materials, production processes, and quality control standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with SQL databases or ERP systems is a plus.
