Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Taxonomist to support our Content Review and Management team. This is a 6-month contract role with the possibility of extension up to 12 months or longer, depending on project scope and business needs.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, governing, and maintaining taxonomy and metadata strategies that enable modular content reuse, search and discovery, lifecycle management, performance tracking, and audit readiness. You will work cross-functionally with content strategists, regulatory affairs, product owners, and engineering teams to ensure content is structured, organized, and compliant across its lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and maintenance of enterprise-wide taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, and metadata frameworks.
Standardize tagging models and classification systems to support scalable, modular content across platforms and business units.
Ensure taxonomy design aligns with user needs, platform functionality, and business goals.
Establish taxonomy governance protocols and workflows for consistent content structure, versioning, and sunset policies.
Collaborate with content owners to support efficient review, approval, publication, and archival processes.
Drive adoption of taxonomy best practices across tools and teams.
Improve content findability by enabling structured navigation, tagging, synonym management, and filtering systems.
Partner with UX and engineering teams to enhance internal and external search powered by taxonomy and metadata.
Align metadata models with analytics frameworks to enable insight into content engagement, performance, and lifecycle status.
Support tagging strategy to power personalization, AI/ML classification, and dashboard reporting.
Regulatory Support & Audit Readiness
Ensure metadata compliance with regulatory standards and business requirements.
Support content audit, inspection readiness, and documentation efforts through structured metadata and content traceability.
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in taxonomy development, metadata strategy, or content architecture in regulated or enterprise environments.
Expertise in metadata standards and controlled vocabularies (e.g., Dublin Core, SKOS).
Hands-on experience with enterprise CMS, DAM systems, or structured authoring environments.
Demonstrated success managing taxonomy across large-scale, multi-stakeholder ecosystems.
Strong collaboration and communication skills to work across content, regulatory, and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with structured authoring tools (e.g., DITA, Oxygen XML).
Familiarity with platforms such as Veeva Vault, Adobe Experience Manager, KMS Lighthouse, or similar.
Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements for digital content.
Knowledge of tagging practices that enable AI, machine learning, and intelligent content systems.
