Overview

Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is a 118 bed Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents. The 55,000 square foot facility is on approximately 10 acres in southeast Alabama, near Florida and Georgia. The hospital employs about 195 staff members and houses the New Day Academy, a state-supported year-round K-12 school with vocational opportunities.

Responsibilities

Laurel Oaks is currently seeking a Recreational Therapist. A Recreational Therapist designs and initiates therapeutic services to improve the physical, mental and emotional well-being of patients. Therapeutic services include, but are not limited to: entertainment, exercise, relaxation, expression, music, art, pet therapy, and other recreational programs.

This position is scheduled Mon-Thursday 12p-8p, with rotating Fridays 12p-8p and rotating weekends Sat-Sun 8a-4p.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field. Certification in music/art or related therapy fields.

Experience: Preferred — one year of experience in program development and implementation of therapeutic recreation activities in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
