Overview
Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is a 118-bed acute psychiatric hospital and residential treatment center for children and adolescents ages four through eighteen. The 55,000 square foot facility sits on approximately 10 acres in southeast Alabama, less than 20 miles from Florida and Georgia. The hospital also houses the New Day Academy, a state-supported year-round K-12 school with vocational opportunities. The facility employs about 195 staff members.
Responsibilities
Laurel Oaks is currently seeking a Recreational Therapist. A Recreational Therapist designs and initiates therapeutic services to improve the physical, mental and emotional well-being of patients. Therapeutic services include, but are not limited to: entertainment, exercise, relaxation, expression, music, art, pet and other recreational programs.
This position is Monday–Thursday 12:00 PM–8:00 PM, with rotating Fridays 12:00 PM–8:00 PM and rotating weekends Saturday–Sunday 8:00 AM–4:00 PM.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field. Certification in Music/Art or related therapy fields.
Experience: Preferred — one year of experience in program development and implementation of therapeutic recreation activities in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
