Overview
The IT Audio Visual Technician provides technical support for the Kansas Judicial Center, located in Topeka, for courtroom, conference room, and training room AV systems, including video conferencing, digital signage, and presentation technologies. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and updating of AV systems within the Kansas Judicial Center Building. The technician works closely with the Judicial Branch IT support staff, vendors, facilities and maintenance staff, as well as court personnel to ensure reliable performance, timely troubleshooting, and ongoing modernization of AV environments. The role also supports basic desktop troubleshooting related to Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other conferencing applications. This position is expected to work on site.
Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain AV systems in conference rooms, training rooms, courtrooms, and other media related spaces.
- Manage and update digital signage solutions, display systems, and room scheduling panel systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, system checks, and updates for AV equipment, ensuring reliability during live proceedings and events. Create documentation and checklists to follow.
- Respond promptly to technical issues, both scheduled and unscheduled, providing hands-on support in real time.
- Collaborate with vendors for equipment repair, warranty claims, and new system design or upgrades.
- Assist with the planning, installation, and testing of AV solutions, including Extron, Crestron, or similar control systems.
- Support and troubleshoot web conferencing platforms (Zoom Government, Microsoft Teams, etc.) and their integration with AV hardware.
- Maintain and support training rooms and their AV technology; provide onsite coverage for major events, including court dockets in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals courtrooms.
- Maintain an event calendar to track AV support needs for proceedings, training, and other scheduled events.
- Document system layouts, troubleshooting procedures, and maintenance schedules.
- Provide user support and training for court staff and administrators in the use of AV and conferencing tools, including documentation and “cheat sheets” at the equipment location.
- Support desktop environments where AV overlaps with conferencing applications (Zoom, Teams, cameras, mics, headsets).
- Maintain inventory of AV hardware, cameras, cables, and peripheral equipment throughout the building.
- Proven experience operating and supporting AV systems in conference rooms, training rooms, or courtrooms.
- Hands-on experience with web conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, WebEx) and their integration with AV hardware.
- Familiarity with Extron, Crestron, or other AV control platforms.
- Knowledge of digital signage platforms and content management.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve technical issues.
- Experience coordinating with vendors on repairs, upgrades, and system design.
- Basic IT support skills related to desktop setup, connectivity, and conferencing applications.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently and under time-sensitive conditions, especially during live proceedings and high-profile events.

Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting AV and IT hardware/software commonly used in conference rooms, training rooms, or courtrooms.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain AV systems in conference rooms, training rooms, courtrooms, and other media related spaces.
- US Citizen, Greencard or OPT-EAD (No sponsorship needed).
- Must be in Topeka, KS; willing to drive to the site or relocate if outside Topeka.
- Associates degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, or relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience supporting IT and AV projects, including system upgrades, technology migrations, and new equipment deployments.
- Proven ability to analyze technical issues, identify root causes, and communicate solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical users.
- Hands-on experience with web conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, WebEx) and their integration with AV hardware.
- Familiarity with Extron, Crestron, or other AV control platforms.
- Experience developing user documentation, quick guides, or training materials for AV systems.
- CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or equivalent AV certification preferred; Crestron or Extron certification is a plus.
- Experience in judicial, government, or public-sector environments is preferred.
Education
- Required Education: Associate degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
