Role Overview

The Volunteer Social Media Specialist will be the voice of MWA across digital platforms, amplifying our mission to promote mental wellness in online (and eventually offline) communities. You’ll craft engaging content, grow our audience, and help build a movement—one post at a time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute social media strategies (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Discord, etc.) to increase engagement and reach.
  • Create compelling graphics, videos, and written content that aligns with MWA’s mission and tone (fun, empathetic, anti-stigma).
  • Schedule and post regular content, including event promotions, mental health resources, and community spotlights.
  • Monitor trends in gaming, mental health, and nonprofit spaces to keep MWA’s messaging fresh and relevant.
  • Engage with followers, respond to comments/DMs, and foster a positive, inclusive online community.
  • Collaborate with the Events Team to promote virtual hangouts, gaming tournaments, and fundraisers.
  • Track analytics and adjust strategies to maximize impact.
  • Brainstorm creative campaigns or collaborations (e.g., influencer partnerships, hashtag challenges).

Qualifications

  • Experience managing social media accounts (personal, professional, or volunteer).
  • Basic design skills (Canva, CapCut, etc.) and an eye for engaging visuals.
  • Strong writing skills—ability to balance humor, warmth, and advocacy.
  • Passion for mental health awareness, gaming, and online communities.
  • Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Discord and gaming culture is a huge plus.

Commitment

This is a volunteer position. We ask for 5–20 hours per week (flexible scheduling).

Benefits

  • Build your portfolio with real-world social media management experience.
  • Directly impact mental health advocacy in gaming and digital spaces.
  • Work with a passionate, creative team that values your ideas.
  • Networking opportunities with mental health advocates and gaming communities.
  • Personalized letter of recommendation from MWA’s leadership.
  • Volunteer hours and shout-outs in our community channels.
