The Department of Writing Arts seeks qualified adjuncts to teach courses in first-year writing and possibly courses in technical and professional writing.

A master’s degree is required in the field of Composition/Rhetoric or a related field, such as English, Creative Writing, Literacy Studies, or Urban Education. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience teaching college writing or professional writing, favorable recommendations from references, and favorable previous student evaluations. Language fluency (oral) in Spanish and experience working with developmental writers are particularly desired.

Applications submitted through this process will be screened on a rolling basis, as additional sections of courses are added over time. Thus, we request that applicants not contact the department to inquire if openings have been filled.

  • Names of or letters from references
  • 1-2 page statement of your philosophy, guiding principles, and teaching practices concerning writing
  • 1 or 2 previous teaching evaluations, if available

Note: Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. The University will not sponsor a visa for this position.

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, and in accordance with the current MOA, Rowan University adjuncts are provided with a minimum of $1,975 per credit for all courses taught, with a maximum teaching load of 8 credits per semester and 12 credits in an academic year. Courses will be assigned to instructors by College & Department on an as-needed basis.

Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person hired to an exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York or have ninety (90) days from the date of employment to establish, then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York.

Note on STEM-OPT Employment: STEM OPT employment is not permitted at Rowan University. To be eligible for a STEM OPT extension, the student's employer must be registered in E-Verify and must use the system to verify all new employees. While Rowan University is registered in the E-Verify system, the University does not use the system to verify all new employees, only those that are working on a Federal Contract. This means that Rowan does not permit individuals to work at the University using a STEM OPT Employment Authorization Document as proof of US Work Authorization.
