Overview

Audio Visual (AV) Services Engineer at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The engineer will support the strategic design, implementation, and maintenance of UCSF’s AV systems and infrastructure. Responsibilities include designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining AV equipment across various platforms, providing engineering and technical support to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency, and offering guidance to other ITS teams to ensure best practices are followed.

The Digital Workplace Services team within Infrastructure Services manages UCSF’s integrated communications, collaboration, and AV systems, including telephony, voicemail, AV technology, video conferencing, and collaboration platforms. This team aims to ensure seamless connectivity and efficient communication to support UCSF’s mission in healthcare, education, and research.

The salary range for this position is $69,700 - $149,900 (Annual Rate). The final salary and offer components are subject to UC policy and depend on factors such as experience and internal equity. The position is full-time and on-site in San Francisco, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain AV equipment across various platforms.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to ensure seamless AV infrastructure operation and minimize downtime.
  • Offer technical guidance and training to other ITS teams, promoting adherence to industry best practices.
  • Manage phases of AV projects, including scope, budget, planning, design, bid preparation, installation, inspection, testing, and final walkthrough.
  • Test and operate installed AV IT equipment and assess AV requirements to inform technical solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or related field.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in AV technology, unified communications, information technology, or network operations.
  • Proficiency in AV technologies, including audio/video signal flow, equipment functionality, audio, video, and communications circuitry, AV IT control systems, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with AV integration principles, system design, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong technical skills in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining AV systems and equipment.
  • Experience managing AV projects across all phases, with ability to test and operate installed AV IT equipment.
  • Analytical skills to assess requirements and recommend technical solutions; understanding of networking concepts relevant to AV (IP addressing, VLANs, streaming).
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations; familiarity with audio, video, control systems and related cabling.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communications skills; ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AV design software and tools (CAD, DSP programming platforms) and experience creating schematics, flow diagrams, and system drawings.
  • Experience in complex higher education environments (academic, medical, research, and administration).
  • AVIXA CTS certifications (CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I), CCNA, and manufacturer certifications (Crestron, Extron, QSC, etc.).
