This role is part of our growing organization and supports hospital operations in the communications and paging domain.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, record and respond to all phone calls, emergency calls and oxygen alarms.
  • Answer all incoming phone calls on a multi-function phone system.
  • Respond to general inquiries and requests during emergencies, including medical emergencies, suicides, bomb threats and other crisis calls; determine priority and protocol and dispatch security personnel accordingly.
  • Operate the Nortel console and paging systems; provide routing information and assistance to users.
  • Notify proper personnel during traumas and medical emergencies and assist in contacting on-call physicians and staff physicians.
  • Process and distribute the on-call schedule weekly; manage caller messages for physicians and clinic personnel as required.
  • Handle emergency calls on the dedicated emergency line and activate required pagers and communications to responding personnel.
  • Provide in-house, long-range and paging services for clinic caregivers and outside callers.
  • Maintain HIPAA-compliant handling of patient information and protect confidentiality.

Minimum qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Nortel console and paging equipment
  • Knowledge of placing local, long-distance and overseas calls, directory information and oral paging
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CRT/PC operation
  • Knowledge of fax machines
  • Clear, concise speaking voice
  • Strong communication, customer service and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in a medical/hospital environment or call center
  • One year of switchboard experience
  • Experience with the Nortel phone system

Pay and benefits

Pay Range: Minimum hourly: $15.00; Maximum hourly: $18.44

The pay range shown reflects the anticipated range for new hires. Compensation may be hourly or salary and will be determined after considering factors such as work history, experience, skills and education. This does not include Cleveland Clinic benefits, including healthcare, dental, vision and retirement.
