Overview

Marketing Writer/Editor role at University of Iowa – Tippie College of Business. The team focuses on creative storytelling, data-informed content development, and multi-channel messaging to support branding and enrollment goals. The mission is to create messages that engage prospective students through every stage of their journey, from research to application to graduation and career development.

Key focus areas include producing research-based blogs and articles, student stories, print and digital advertising, and marketing emails.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and write strategic content marketing pieces such as research-based articles, informative blog/newsletter posts, infographics, and interview write-ups.
  • Help achieve branding and enrollment goals via relevant, timely messages.
  • Create content aligned with the buyer journey and personas, with clear calls-to-action that advance the audience in their decision-making process.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Tippie’s programs to identify and fill content gaps based on audience needs.
  • Adhere to Tippie’s brand voice and tone.
  • Brainstorm and collaborate with the marketing team on new ideas and strategies.
  • Help develop and adhere to a content calendar.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to advise and distribute content across marketing platforms.
  • Produce copy for other materials as needed.

Editing and Proofing

  • Edit, proofread, and fact-check all content.

Research and Information

  • Research and monitor emerging trends and best practices in higher education marketing.

Brand and Web

  • Write in a brand’s unique voice and balance informative, entertaining, and conversion-driven copy.
  • Develop creative concepts that represent and progress the brand.
  • Write website copy and blog content; understand information architecture and content hierarchy; apply SEO best practices.

Qualifications

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • At least one year of relevant marketing writing experience.
  • Creativity and ability to tailor writing style to the audience.
  • Attention to detail with excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Strong time management with ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of adhering to a style guide and brand standards.
  • Understanding of how design and copy work together.
  • Experience interviewing sources and extracting stories.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience using research and data to inform creative decisions.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work under deadlines and adapt to feedback.

Remote Work and Compensation

Remote within Iowa: This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa. Work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with remote work policies and related travel guidelines.

Salary: 45,000 – 50,000 per year.
