Director and Professor, School of Library Science – Marshall University
Marshall University invites applications for a 12-month librarian track faculty position (Assistant Professor/Librarian II) to lead the development of a new School of Library Science, with responsibilities spanning curriculum development, program management, teaching, student advising, and strategic growth. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build a graduate program aligned with American Library Association (ALA) standards and contribute to national conversations on library education.
Responsibilities
- Lead curriculum development and ALA accreditation efforts: coordinate the graduate curriculum to meet ALA standards and support candidacy and (re)accreditation processes.
- Program management and budget oversight: manage the program’s operating budget, contribute to planning, fundraising, marketing, and recruitment; supervise MSLS adjuncts and staff.
- Teaching and student success: teach as needed and collaborate on student advising, internships, and placements.
- Strategic growth and student recruitment: build community partnerships, guide strategic direction, recruit and retain students, and provide leadership for program faculty and staff.
Qualifications
Required
Education: An earned doctorate (ABD may be considered based on timeline) and a Master’s degree in library science from an accredited institution.
Experience: Minimum of two years in a library, teaching experience, budget management experience, experience with accreditation in higher education, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred
Experience teaching in higher education, experience with online learning tools and platforms, supervisory experience.
Rank, Salary, and Location
Rank and salary are commensurate with experience. Location: MU – Marshall University, Huntington, WV.
