Job Description

Research and Instruction Services (RIS) Librarian reports to the Head of the Research and Instruction Services Department. Duties include working a minimum of 37.5 hours per week at the Huntington Campus Library as a 12-month librarian-track non-tenured faculty member. Responsibilities include providing in-person and online reference services, participating in daily reference/circulation desk coverage, and communicating the RIS department\u2019s value through tours, classes, exhibits, and other venues. The Librarian represents the RIS department and the University in the community, engages in departmental and library initiatives, and participates in library liaison programs, shared library instruction, outreach to faculty and students, professional development, and university committees as assigned. The role includes active scholarly engagement and participation in regional/national professional organizations, as well as outreach to faculty, staff, students, and the community. Other duties and special projects may be assigned based on expertise, interests, and library needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach, instruction, and services to faculty and students; serve as a liaison to one or more academic areas.
  • Participate in the library liaison program and shared library instruction program.
  • Engage in University Library research LibGuides and Marshall Digital Scholar (MDS) initiatives.
  • Participate in regional, state, and/or national professional organizations and in professional development activities.
  • Represent the RIS department and the University in the community through personal contact and appearances before groups and associations with professional organizations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on university and library committees as assigned or elected.
  • Contribute to the department\u2019s outreach to faculty, staff, students, and the community, and participate in regional outreach activities.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, depending on additional expertise and library needs.
